Agartala, April 28 (FD) The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party today demonstrated at the Indo-Bangla International border at Bollamukha in south Tripura district demanding immediate stopping of the constructions of an embankment violating international norms.
Over a thousand youths shouted slogans against the construction of the embankment, where administration made a massive deployment of security forces including state police and BSF.
The President of YTF, Suraj Debbarma, who also joined the protest said, “Bangladesh Government led by Md Yunus is erecting an embankment above ten feet height near the border violating the Border Management agreement signed between Bangladesh and India. They are constructing it beyond 150 yards”
According to the agreement no constructions could be made within 150 yards of the border. He said, “It is our duty to protect our lands, boundary and borders. If the Government of India fails to take any positive step towards stopping it, we will march to Bangladesh and occupy the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and Cox’s Bazar and form greater Tipraland”.
The President of Tipra Motha and royal scion, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also reacted to the matter heavily.
He said, “They are our warrior and would have crossed the international border to demolish the embankment unless they were stopped by BSF”.
Expressing his concern, Debbarma said continuous infiltration from Bangladesh is changing the demography of the state. If five persons are apprehended, thousands of people sneak into Indian territory taking the advantage of porous border, he added.
The royal scion said that unless the government of India does not take drastic steps the region will face a precarious condition.
“We are demanding for land rights of the indigenous people of the state, otherwise we would be overrun by the illegal Bangladeshis. The government of India should adopt drastic steps to check infiltration”, he added. FD JK
