Agartala, Jan 13 (FD) The Tripura Legislative Assembly today extended greetings and congratulations to Gukesh Dommaraju for becoming the youngest player to win the World Chess Championship title.
An official congratulatory motion was unanimously passed in the first session of the Assembly. The motion was introduced by the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy.
In the congratulatory motion, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy stated that Indian chess player Gukesh Dommaraju, at just 18 years of age, created an extraordinary milestone by winning the title of World Champion as the youngest player in the World Chess Championship.
The Tripura Legislative Assembly sincerely congratulates and extends best wishes to India’s pride, the youngest World Chess Champion, Gukesh Dommaraju. Gukesh achieved this glory by defeating former champion Ding Liren of China in the final round of the FIDE World Chess Championship held in Singapore. With this success, he broke the record of Russian legend Garry Kasparov, becoming the youngest player ever to win the World Chess Championship.
Born on May 29, 2006, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Gukesh displayed a deep passion for chess from a young age. His father, Dr. Rajan Babu, is a doctor, while his mother, Padmavathi, is a microbiologist. Gukesh was fortunate to receive support from this inspirational family, which helped him develop his remarkable talent. At the age of just seven, his fascination with chess became evident, and he quickly honed his skills. In 2019, at only 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days, he earned the Grandmaster title, making him the world’s second-youngest Grandmaster at the time.
Gukesh’s incredible feat in the World Chess Championship is a testament to his dedication, relentless hard work, and strategic brilliance. His historic victory has not only brought immense pride to his family but has also become a moment of national glory for India. By becoming the youngest World Champion in chess, Gukesh Dommaraju will continue to inspire the younger generation. The Tripura Legislative Assembly congratulates him on this unforgettable achievement and wishes him even greater success in the future. FD JK
