Agartala, June 21 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday urged people to make yoga a part of their daily lives, describing it as an effective means of achieving physical fitness, mental well-being and a healthy lifestyle.
Addressing the state-level International Yoga Day celebration at the International Exhibition Ground in Hapania, Saha said yoga and pranayama, rooted in India's ancient traditions, have earned global recognition for promoting holistic health and inner peace.
“Yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a way of life that fosters harmony between the body, mind and spirit,” the Chief Minister said, adding that regular practice helps people lead healthier and more disciplined lives.
Highlighting India’s contribution to the global wellness movement, he recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the observance of International Yoga Day at the United Nations in 2014, following which June 21 was declared International Yoga Day. The occasion has been celebrated worldwide since 2015.
Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” Saha said yoga plays a crucial role in maintaining physical fitness, mental resilience and overall well-being throughout life.
The programme witnessed the participation of government officials, students, yoga practitioners, security personnel and members of the public. The Chief Minister also joined the mass yoga session and encouraged people of all age groups to embrace yoga regularly for a healthier and more harmonious society.
The event was part of nationwide celebrations aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of yoga and promoting its adoption for long-term health and wellness. FD JK
