Wood smugglers attack forest officials, eight injured

Agartala, Aug 22 (FD) At least eight forest guards were injured at Bushingpara, a remote tribal hamlet at Laljuri in North Tripura district on Sunday when they raided the area to nab the timber smugglers there.
Acting on a tip-off, a contingent of forest guards led by Sujit Das raided the village and saw that the timber smugglers were felling trees. Seeing the forest officials they fled in the jungle, officials said adding when they were returning the smugglers attacked them and also blocked the road of their return with the timbers.
When the forest guards stopped seeing their roads were blocked, the smugglers pounced on them with lethal weapons. They also damaged the vehicle and the motorcycle.
In the attack eight forest guards, identified as - Forester Sujit Das (38), Mintu Bhowmik (40), Ujiham Reang (53), Shiban Shil (45), Sushanta Chakma (28), Nandi Charan Tripura (32), Sabya Sahi Sen (40) and Alok Paul (55) sustained severe injuries. They all were taken to hospital. FD JK
