India defeated Malaysia 5-0 in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup hockey at Muscat in Oman, continuing their strong performance in the tournament. This marked India’s third consecutive win against Malaysia in the competition’s history. After a slow start and a tough Malaysian defence, India broke through in the third quarter.
Vaishnavi Phalke scored the first goal in the 32nd minute, followed by a hat-trick from Deepika (37th, 39th, 48th) and another goal by Kanika Siwach (38th). India’s relentless attacks paid off as they dominated the second half, building on their earlier 13-1 win over Bangladesh. India will take on China tomorrow. The match will begin at 8:30 PM IST.
The Junior Asia Cup serves as a qualifying event for the FIH Junior World Cup, which will take place next year in Chile. The top five teams from the tournament will secure their spots in the World Cup.
