Agartala, July 06 (FD) A tragic incident occurred in Tripura's Khowai district as a 58-year-old woman lost her life when a wall of her kuccha (mud-wall) house collapsed on her while she was sleeping.
The incident took place due to incessant rainfall, which caused a mudslide. The victim, identified as Sabitri Sarkar from Ghilatali village in the Kalyanpur area, was trapped under the debris and succumbed to her injuries despite efforts to rescue her.
The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) reported the incident and initiated an inquiry after receiving a preliminary report from the Assistant District Magistrate (ADM) of Khowai.
In addition to this tragic event, several houses in the Jirania sub-division of West Tripura were severely damaged due to heavy rainfall. Immediate compensation of Rs. 30,000 was provided to nine affected households.
Local authorities, including MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, visited the bereaved families to express their condolences and assure them of government support.
The SEOC's report highlights that, in the last five days alone, three individuals lost their lives and one person sustained injuries due to mud slips, thunderstorms, and other related incidents. The authorities conducted a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of Sabitri Sarkar's death.
Earlier in July, a mudslide following incessant rain in a Gomati district village claimed the life of a six-year-old girl and injured a five-year-old girl. In June, lightning strikes resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a pregnant woman, and caused injuries to several others. FD SB
