Widow of Tripura’s first CM allotted a bungalow

Agartala, Jun 22 (FD) 91-year-old Lakshmi Singh, widow of Tripura’s first chief minister Sachindra Lal Singh was allotted a Type-IV bungalow by the state government following her request to the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Officials said this decision was taken in the meeting of the council of ministers on Wednesday since she has no place to stay in Tripura.
“When the request of the veteran came to the CM, he had taken the initiative with utmost sincerity. The council of ministers in its meeting held here yesterday also recalled the contribution of the first Chief Minister Sachindra Lal Singh in shaping the state from a union territory to a full-fledged state. Lakshmi Devi was alloted a Type-IV bungalow in Agartala”, the official said.
Singh is at present residing in Haryana’s Faridabad.
Sachindra Lal Singh was the chief minister of the northeastern state from July 1, 1963 to November 1, 1973 and breathed his last in Delhi in 2000.
Bangladesh government awarded the ‘Friends of Liberation War’ honour in 2012 for his insistent role in the historic liberation war. During his tenure 15 lakh refugees had taken shelter in 1971, which surpassed the original population of the state.
Chief Minister Saha also allotted a palatial bungalow for the former Marxist Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who was the longest serving Chief minister of the state and remain at the helm of affairs for continuous twenty years. FD JK
