Widening of Assam-Agartala NH08 Prioritized for Economic Growth: Transport Minister

Agartala, May 1 (FD) In a significant step toward improving road connectivity and economic development in Tripura, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a special meeting on the widening of the Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH08) at Gurukul Community Hall, Mohanpur, under Jirania sub-division on Thursday.
The meeting focused on resolving land acquisition issues that have delayed the progress of the highway expansion. Minister Chowdhury stressed the urgent need for a well-planned and safe road system to manage the growing number of vehicles and to drive progress in both the transportation and economic sectors of the state.
“I am aware of the problems related to land acquisition. We will address these issues soon. With increasing vehicular pressure, expanding the highway is essential for better connectivity and overall state development,” said the minister.
He also appealed to local residents, traders, and stakeholders to support the initiative for the greater good. The meeting was organized by the sub-divisional administration to expedite the project and included detailed discussions on overcoming current obstacles.
Key officials present at the meeting included West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, SDM Santi Ranjan Chakma, Additional SDM Animesh Dhar, Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Pritam Debnath, and social worker Ranjit Roy Chowdhury, along with engineers and representatives from concerned departments and the highway expansion team.
The state government is committed to ensuring timely completion of the Agartala to Dharmanagar highway widening project to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and regional development. FD JK
