Agartala, May 22 (FD) In a disturbing revelation, a case of cheque fraud has raised alarming questions about the security of Indian Bank’s cheque deposit system. Gopal Dey, on behalf of Dreams Advertisement, deposited a cheque in the bank’s dropbox, expecting a routine transaction.
However, when the funds failed to appear in the intended account, he contacted the bank, only to be told that no such transaction had occurred.
To his shock, it was later confirmed that the amount had been debited but credited to a completely different account — under the name Suman Lata, located in Dehradun. This has sparked serious concerns over how a cheque placed in a secure dropbox could be intercepted and misused in such a manner.
An official police complaint has been filed by Gopal Dey at the West Agartala Police Station. The incident raises urgent questions about loopholes in bank security and customer protection. FD SB
