We cannot allow division of Tripura: Himanta

Agartala, Feb 7(FD): Chairman of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma today said the BJP will not anyway allow dividing Tripura even if it fails to form the next government in the state.
Addressing a poll rally at Melaghar in Sepahijala district's he said the BJP was ready to empower the indigenous people socially, culturally, politically and linguistically but was against creation of a new state by dividing Tripura.
The Tipra Motha, a regional party, headed by royal scion Pradyut Kishore Debbarma is demanding a separate Tipraland by carving out the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
"I met Pradyot Debbarma twice and directly told him that BJP is totally against the division of Tripura. His grandfather (former ruler of Tripura state Bir Bikram Manikya) had not demanded Greater Tipraland, why is it being raised now?" he said.
Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in a public rally at Kailashahar in Unakoti district said, the CPI-M ruled the state for 25 years, but only exploited the people but the face of the state changed after the BJP came to power.
He said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special attention for development of North-East and Tripura is really running towards economic development.
Singh said the CPI(M) had always shed crocodile’s tears for poors but they are the ones who exploited the poor people for years, but did nothing for the poor. The face of the state changed after the BJP came to power.
Polling for the 60-seat assembly will be held on February 16, while the votes will be counted on March 2. FD JK
