Agartala, May 30 (FD) The power supply situation in rural and hilly areas have seriously worsened in the current monsoon season that has come early in Tripura this time. In many rural and hilly pockets of habitation people have to spend days on end without power due to lack of initiative on the part of maintenance wing of the TSECL in repairing faults and restoring power .
A peoples protest was witnessed this morning in the Arai Mail area on the Ambassa-Gandacherra road as hundreds of people belonging to tribal and non-tribal sections from the Ishan Chandra Para village today launched a blockade on the road demanding immediate restoration of power normal power supply. The blockadeers were deeply peeved by the fact that they had been suffering from total lack of power supply to their village over the past whole month. Shortly after the blockade had begun hundreds of vehicles to and from Ambassa and Gandacherra got stranded on the road , creating a chaotic situation.
Sources from Ambassa said that after being informed of the traffic dislocation a police team from the Ambassa police station reached the spot and tried to reason with those leading the blockade to withdraw their agitation, citing public inconvenience . But the people stuck to their programme insisting that officials and technocrats from the TSECL office in Ambassa must reach the spot and assure them of restoration of power supply within the shortest possible time. At the nudging of police authority a team of TSECL engineers reached the blockade spot at Arai Mail and assured the agitators that all faults will be repaired within next two days and power supply will be restored. The blockade that had begun around 10-00 AM was finally withdrawn around 12-00 PM but the people warned that unless the promise of repair and restoration is honoured, they will resume the blockade.
