United States of America’s sprinter Noah Lyles secured a historic victory in the men’s 100 meters. In an incredibly close finish, Lyles leaned at the finish line to edge out Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by just .005 seconds, clocking in at 9.784 seconds.

Thompson took the silver with a time of 9.789 seconds, while fellow American Fred Kerley claimed the bronze, finishing in 9.81 seconds. South Africa’s Akani Simbine came in fourth, as all competitors in the race broke the 10-second barrier.
