Agartala, March 28 (FD) Tripura assembly on Tuesday witnessed uproarious scenes over re-examination of Kokbarak language for a section of students of Class x and class xii and the speaker of the assembly Biswabandhu Sen had to stall the proceedings.
The legislators of the party started chanting slogans and voicing protests on the plea that a teacher compelled the Higher Secondary aspirants of Taidu Higher Secondary School to write their answer sheets in the Bengali script.
They demanded re-examination for some Higher Secondary students, who were allegedly not allowed to write their Kokborok language answer papers in Roman Script.
Leader of the Opposition Animesh Debbarma moved the issue as a calling attention notice and sought an answer from the Chief Minister who also holds the post of the Education Minister.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, “The education department did not issue any direction for writing answer papers of Kokborok language. Only 55 students among 3,235 Madhyanik aspirants and 45 among 2,605 Higher Secondary examinations students have attempted their papers in Roman Script which is even less than 1.71 per cent.”
After the reply of the Chief Minister, the TIpra Motha MLAs intensified chanting slogans and at one point rushed to the well of the house.
Speaker then adjourned the house for ten minutes and when the House reassembled, the Chief Minister again assured that both issues will be taken care of. He said, “The matter of re-examination will be properly investigated. The issue of writing a separate letter to the CBSE advising a set of question papers for Kokborok in Roman will also be considered.”
The Tipra Motha legislators then stopped protesting and attended the business of the house. FD JK
