Agartala, Nov 3 (FD) Agartala's Nazrul Kalakshetra has become home to a remarkable collection of 45 sculptures, crafted over two months of dedicated effort. This unique artistic initiative aims to shed light on often-overlooked historical events of the freedom struggle and honor the unsung heroes of Tripura and other northeastern states.
These freedom fighters, who received little recognition for their sacrifices, are now being honored through this creative initiative.
Executive Member of Lalit Kala Akademi Tripura Centre, Suman Majumder, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "All the sculptures are ready for installation and display. The state government has assured us that they will soon allocate a space where all the busts will be installed, along with brief notes about the contributions of the unsung heroes of the Northeast region."
The primary goal of this artistic tribute is to educate the people of Tripura about the invaluable contributions of these forgotten heroes to the nation's freedom struggle. Approximately 36 to 37 of the 45 busts represent individuals from Tripura, with the remaining sculptures honoring heroes from other northeastern states.
The list of honorees includes prominent figures such as the first Chief Minister of Tripura, Sachindra Lal Singh, Left leader Birendra Chandra Dutta, former Chief Sukhamoy Sengupta, Hari Ganga Basak, Rabindra Nath Chakraborty, and Ratan Mani Noatia.
Historical accounts narrate how Rai Kachak, from the Reang Community, heroically battled Arakan invaders to recover the revered idol of Mother Tripura Sundari, earning him widespread respect and recognition as one of Tripura's legendary war heroes.
Rai Kasam, on the other hand, played a pivotal role in defeating the Pathan invader Hussain Shah, thus safeguarding Tripura.
In modern times, freedom fighters such as Biren Datta, Sukhamoy Sen, and Sachindra Lal Singh made significant contributions to the Indian independence movement, particularly in areas that now belong to Bangladesh. FD SB JK
