Agartala, Feb 27 (FD) Adequate security arrangements were made for smooth conduct of counting of votes for the sixty-member assembly in Tripura on Thursday (March 2), elections for which was held on February 16 last, a police official said.
He said, Director General of Police (DGP), Amitabh Ranjan personally taking stock of the situation and monitoring police preparedness and issuing vital instructions on daily basis to District SPs to ensure peaceful counting process and post counting situations.
The official said, the unprecedented peaceful election on 16th February unlike many previous elections has given a good name to Tripura Police which has instilled tremendous boost and confidence to Police.
He said, Chief Secretary, DGP and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and other top brasses of the administration had visited different parts of the state and held meetings with District Magistrates and district police chiefs for taking all precautionary measures.
The official said, Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), state police and state paramilitary, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were deployed, Nakas being set up to prevent any illegal movement and Mobile patrolling was intensified during evening and night hours.
He said CAPF was regularly holding flag marches in different parts of the state and strengthened border outposts in coordination with BSF along the 856 km long border with Bangladesh.
The official said, security was provided for political parties and candidates and a Special drive for checking of vehicles & hotels were being done and fixed pickets were set up in sensitive areas.
Adequate security arrangements for counting centers were made and Quick Response Teams (QRT) and Special Striking Reserve were formed for the emergency situation.
All political parties, leaders, candidates were requested to maintain peace and harmony and to remain connected with Civil Administration and Police. FD JK
