Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal flagged-off the fleet of green hydrogen buses of National Thermal Power Corporation in Ladakh. The Minister conducted a visit to Ladakh from November 20 to 23.
Ladakh has become the first place in the country, plying hydrogen buses for public transport.
Green hydrogen buses are part of the Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Ladakh and the Project comprises 1.7 MW solar Plant, Green Hydrogen filling Station of capacity of 80 per day and 5 hydrogen intra city buses.
Each bus has capacity to cover the distance of 300 km per single filling of hydrogen of 25 kg.
Green Hydrogen Mobility Project is envisioned to mitigate the carbon emissions of approximately 350 metrics tonnes per year.
After the flag-off ceremony, the Minister opted to travel the 12 km route from the H2 filling station to the Khushok Bakula Rinpoche in hydrogen bus.
The Minister congratulated NTPC for its unique contribution to the energy security and decarbonisation effort of India, through adoption of hydrogen technologies at various fronts like mobility, blending with PNG, green methanol and it’s thrust on Renewal Energy, in general.
He also advised NTPC to explore how best the oxygen coming out of Electrolyser can be best put to use.
