Agartala, Dec 19 (FD) Security was beefed up here as the Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, who will chair the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Agartala on December 21.
He will also lay the foundation stone for the headquarters of the ruling BJP at Nandan Nagar here next day.
Shah would also visit a Bru settlement village in Dhalai district on Dec 22, official sources said on Thursday adding that Shah would arrive in the state on December 20.
A delegation led by the West Tripura district President of BJP, Asim Bhattacharya today visited the place for the state Karjyalaya.
“We are happy that union Home Minister has kindly agreed to lay the foundation stone of the building on December 22. We have a state Karjyalaya at Vijoy Kumar Chowmuhani, which is small, so the party has decided to construct a new four storied building here”, Bhattacharya told reporters.
More than 37000 Bru refugees from neighbouring Mizoram had started trickling in Tripura’s Kanchanpur subdivision in North Tripura district since 1997 in phased manner following ethnic conflict with the local Mizos.
But a quadruplet agreement was signed with the centre, the governments of Tripura and Mizoram and the Brus in 2022.
They were settled in 12 locations of Tripura’s four districts including Dhalai, West Tripura, Sipahijala and Gomati districts.
State Government officials said that Shah would visit Haduklau para, a Bru settlement in Dhalai district and address a public meeting at the nearby Masuraipara in the district on that day.
Union Minister Shah, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia and all the Governors and Chief Ministers of the all eight states in the region will attend the plenary session of the NEC on December 21.
The session would review the proposed development projects in the two-day meeting of the NEC, considered to be the regional planning body.
Officials also said that The North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) will also review its activities in the north eastern region in presence of the Union Home Minister and the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath on Dec.22. FD JK
