Agartala, Dec 11 (FD) The East Agartala Police arrested two women from Bihar for smuggling 8.4 kg of ganja. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Female Inspector Kamla Mura Singh, along with Narayan Dey and Shyamal Debnath, conducted a raid at the Yogendranagar Railway Station. During the search, they seized 15 packets of dried ganja from the two women, identified as Putul Devi and Sangeeta Devi Mandal, both residents of Bihar.
Sources indicate that the women had been collecting the ganja from Agartala’s Badharghat area with plans to transport it to a drug dealer in Bihar, where it would fetch a high price. The case is part of a larger inter-state drug smuggling network, involving local agents at Yogendranagar and Badharghat railway stations. These agents use small vehicles to transport ganja from areas like Sidhai and Sonamura before handing it off to individuals heading to Bihar.
The arrested women have been brought to the East Agartala Police Station, where they will be presented before a court. Police are seeking remand to investigate further into the network, with several local agents likely involved in the operation.
