“The incident occurred on the day of Baishaki Mela on Wednesday last. The two girls came to see the mela at Amarpur town. The prime accused, Molarai Jamatia, who had befriended one of the girls on Facebook, took them to a rubber plantation in Chechua on his scooter, where seven to eight youths were waiting. While speaking with reporters, Chief Minister said that the state government has already taken zero tolerance policy towards such crimes.
“That day I was going to Udaipur and get the news. I immediately contacted the Superintendent of Police and directed him to arrest the culprit as soon as possible and they have done it. We have already adopted zero tolerance policy against such crimes. Such incidents are taking place across the country by a section on mental disorder people. But from our government part we will try to take strict action against the culprit following all legal action”, he added.
The Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) has condemned the gang rape of the two tribal girls and demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the heinous act.
