Agartala, Apr 22 (FD) Two persons lost their lives in separate tragic incidents in different parts of Tripura, police said on Tuesday.
In the first incident, a 30-year-old youth allegedly jumped to his death from a running train in Bishalgarh subdivision of Sepahijala district. The deceased has been identified as Bijay Majumder, a resident of Suryamoninagar near Tripura Central University.
According to police sources, Majumder had boarded the Agartala–Sabroom passenger train on Tuesday evening. When the train was passing through the Sahapara area, he suddenly came to the door and jumped off the moving train under unclear circumstances.
Local residents who spotted him lying unconscious near the tracks immediately alerted the fire brigade. Fire and emergency service personnel rushed to the spot and shifted him towards the Tripura Medical College (TMC) Hospital at Hapania. However, sources said Majumder succumbed to his injuries on the way, reportedly in the Bishalgarh ambulance.
His untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over his native Surjyamoni Nagar locality. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.
In a separate incident, a 49-year-old mason died of electrocution in the Pratapgarh area under East Agartala police station on Tuesday evening.
The deceased, identified as Amrit Chakraborty, a resident of Bagha Tilla in Pratapgarh, reportedly came into contact with a live wire while attempting to fix an electrical fault at his residence.
Family members rushed him to IGM Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him brought dead. After completion of post-mortem formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
Chakraborty is survived by his wife, son and other family members. Police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the incident. FD JK
