Agartala, Feb 19 (FD) Director of the Elementary Education Department served ‘show-cause’ notices to the twenty teachers including one headmistress and four officiating headmasters of Khowai and West Tripura district for dereliction of duties.
The show cause notices were sent to the teachers by the Director of the Elementary Education department on Monday last following a team of the department during a surprise visit found that either school teachers were resting in their rooms while the students were in the playgrounds or the teachers were found absent without any valid permission.
An investigation team on February 12 during its visit to the Moharbari Senior Basic School in Teliamura under Khowai district found that four teachers including the in-charge were resting in the staff room when the students were playing in the playground.
The Director in the show cause notices asked the teachers why appropriate actions would not be taken when the incidents of dereliction of duties were found.
Sources in the department said, in Khowai district they found that sixteen teachers were absent in schools, but they did not take permission from appropriate authorities for absence.
Sources said many teachers showed inflated numbers of presence of students in the schools for manipulation of the mid-day meal statements.
The team also received complaints from students that the teachers did not take classes and imposed huge home tasks on them.
Surprisingly, the Headmistress of the Teliamura HS School, who did not serve class routines from pre-primary to the students of class V, and stated that she did not know that class routines, should be given to the students.
