Agartala, Apr 17 (FD) The counting of votes for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections concluded on Thursday, delivering a decisive mandate in favor of the Tipra Motha Party. Out of the total 28 seats in the council, Tipra Motha secured a commanding victory by winning 24 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win 4 seats.
The results underline a significant political shift in the tribal council areas, with Tipra Motha consolidating its influence across a majority of constituencies. The party’s sweeping victory reflects strong grassroots support and a growing demand for regional representation in tribal governance.
Among the key winners from Tipra Motha, Bhavaranjan Reang won from Damchhara-Jampui (ST), Ratish Tripura secured Karamchhara (ST), and Hollywood Chakma emerged victorious from Manu-Chailengta. Other notable winners include Dhirendra Debbarma from Demchhara-Kachuchhara (ST), Kshatrajoy Reang from Ganganagar-Gandachhara (ST), and Prasmit Debbarma from Halahali-Asharambari (ST).
Further strengthening the party’s dominance, Rajeshwar Debbarma won Kulai-Champhahaur (ST), Utpal Debbarma claimed Maharani-Teliamura (ST), and James Debbarma secured Ramchandraghat (ST). Rabindra Debbarma, Runeil Debbarma, and Jagadish Debbarma were also among the prominent winners in their respective constituencies.
Geeta Debbarma’s victory from Pekuarcharjala-Jananmoynagar (ST) and Suraj Debbarma’s win from Takarjala-Jampuijala (ST) added to the party’s tally. Buddhu Kumar Debbarma, Purna Chandra Jamatia, and Chandra Kumar Jamatia also delivered crucial wins for Tipra Motha.
In contrast, the BJP registered victories in four constituencies. Manju Rani Sarkar won from Machmara, Shailendra Nath secured Dasda-Kanchanpur, Esmel Joy Tripura emerged victorious from Chhamanu (ST), and Kongjat Mon won from Shilachhari-Manubankul (ST).
Political observers note that this outcome could have long-term implications for Tripura’s tribal politics and governance structure. The overwhelming mandate for Tipra Motha is expected to strengthen its position in advocating for indigenous rights and regional autonomy.
The final results are likely to influence future political strategies of both regional and national parties in the state, especially in areas dominated by tribal populations. FD SB
