Agartala, Mar 22 (FD) The Tribal Student Federation (TSF), the student wing of the Tipra Motha party today said that there would be a large gathering before the Gandhi statue on Monday to press for their demand of introduction of Roman script in Kokbarak language, the linguafranca of the tribals in Tripura.
Addressing a press conference here today the student body said that their ongoing protest would continue until the government decides anything positive for introduction of the Roman script in their language.
They expressed their dissatisfaction over the alleged delay by the state government to introduce the script in their language.
“We have long been demanding for introduction of the roman script in our language, but the successive governments in the state have not done so. So, we have decided to intensify our stir.
So, we have decided to make such a large gathering”, the leaders of the student body said.
They also announced that the ongoing highway blockade would continue and besides there would be large gathering in the state capital.
Meanwhile, due to the blockade beginning from today there has been inconveniences of the people, particularly in Baramura and Teliamura areas.
There has been a long queue of the trucks carrying goods at Teliamura and Bishramganj areas and people are unable to move by the vehicles.
“There has been a long 45-km long lines of goods trucks carrying perishable items and people on the roads have come to a hault, but the administration has failed to take any measures”, said police.
Hours after the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) began an indefinite statewide strike Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Friday assured the public that the issue would be resolved soon.
“This government is a government of solutions. We regard the thoughts, culture, traditions, and languages of all people,” said CM Saha said in the Assembly.
Saha further stated that a tripartite agreement between the Centre, state, and the Tipra Motha was signed in New Delhi last year to meet several demands of the tribals including the introduction of the Roman script for the Kokborok language. FD JK
