TSECL Contractors Demand Release of Pending Bills, Meet Managing Director

Agartala, July 23 (FD) Delayed payment of bills by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has emerged as a major concern, with contractors alleging that payments for completed works have remained pending for nearly two years.

A delegation of contractors engaged in TSECL projects on Thursday met the corporation's Managing Director, Biswajit Basu, demanding immediate clearance of their outstanding dues.

During the meeting, representatives of the Electrical Contractors' Association informed the Managing Director that despite completing assigned works to the satisfaction of the corporation, they had not received payments for the past two years. They urged the corporation to release the pending bills at the earliest, warning that the prolonged delay was severely affecting their livelihood and business operations.

According to the contractors, the Managing Director cited various reasons for the delay and assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the department concerned and the Power Minister to facilitate early release of the pending payments.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, an association spokesperson said the non-payment of bills had left contractors in severe financial distress.

"For nearly two years, we have not received payments for works already completed. As a result, we are unable to undertake new projects, pay wages to daily-rated workers, or clear the dues of suppliers who provided construction materials and electrical equipment. Many contractors are even struggling to support their families," the spokesperson said.

The association expressed hope that the assurance given by the TSECL Managing Director would translate into early clearance of the pending dues, enabling contractors to resume normal operations and meet their financial obligations. FD JK
