Agartala, May 19 (FD) The renowned Queen Pineapple of Tripura is all set to make its mark in the national market with a special exhibition held on Thursday in New Delhi.
The event was formally launched by Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar at the Delhi Hut in the presence of Tripura's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath. The exhibition aims to attract buyers and traders interested in trading with the unique pineapple variety, which has gained widespread appreciation globally.
With the positive response received from international markets, where whole fruits were exported to Dubai and Qatar and packed sliced pineapples were shipped to Germany, Minister Nath highlighted the significant benefits these exports brought to the farmers. With growing demand for the Queen Pineapple worldwide, the focus now shifts to expanding its popularity in the national market.
The Queen Pineapple, which is exclusive to Tripura, holds the distinction of being the only Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged product from the state. Its exceptional taste and texture have made it a preferred choice among buyers, distinguishing it from other pineapple varieties grown across the country.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar's presence at the exhibition further demonstrates the government's support for promoting agricultural products from Tripura. The event's primary objective is to attract national buyers, offering local farmers the opportunity to secure better prices for their crops.
Minister Nath said that increasing Queen Pineapple production has been a key priority in Tripura, and the exhibition in New Delhi serves as a significant step towards achieving that goal. A team of officials has already reached Delhi with the pineapples, and preparations are underway to showcase this unique fruit.
As the exhibition draws near, farmers and traders in Tripura eagerly anticipate the national and international market opportunities that may arise from this initiative. With its distinctive qualities and the government's backing, the Queen Pineapple of Tripura is poised to become a sought-after agricultural product on a larger scale. FD SB JK
