Agartala, Oct 5 (FD) Bengali student and youth organizations in Tripura have urged the state government to make the use of Bengali mandatory in all government and private institutions, expressing concern over the “gradual decline” of the state’s official language in administrative, academic, and commercial spaces.
At a press conference in Agartala, leaders of the Bangali Chhatra Juba Samaj, Tripura State Committee, stressed that Bengali is central to cultural pride and identity. “Bengali is not merely a language of communication; it embodies our cultural and historical essence. The government must ensure its rightful place in every official and institutional setting,” they said.
The organization also raised demands related to unemployment, education, industries, and connectivity. Secretaries Biplab Das and Ramkrishna Shil urged the government to fill vacant posts across departments and address the shortage of teachers from primary to university levels. They also sought urgent improvement of the alternative National Highway, calling it Tripura’s lifeline.
The leaders pressed for a comprehensive plan to empower unemployed youth through training and financial support, and proposed establishing small and medium-scale industries using local raw materials. They further urged the government to prioritize procurement from local businesses to strengthen the domestic economy.
The group concluded that their demands aim to safeguard Tripura’s linguistic and cultural identity while driving sustainable socio-economic development. FD JK
