Agartala, May 16 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said the state has witnessed significant development in crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, law and order, and employment generation over the past four years.
Saha, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister on May 15, 2022 after succeeding former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, said the government has focused on strengthening infrastructure, expanding opportunities for youth and improving public services across the state.
Speaking to reporters on completing four years in office, the Chief Minister said Tripura has made remarkable progress in the health and education sectors through sustained policy initiatives and infrastructure expansion.
“Tripura has witnessed massive development in fields like health, education, law and order and employment in the last four years. The number of MBBS seats has increased substantially over the past few years,” Saha said.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government has taken several initiatives to address the shortage of doctors and healthcare professionals by significantly increasing MBBS and postgraduate medical seats in government institutions.
He said the state has also strengthened its healthcare infrastructure with major investments in medical facilities and specialised healthcare services. Among the major developments, the Centre recently sanctioned Rs 273 crore for the expansion of the Agartala Government Medical College, while the state government has partnered with All India Institute of Medical Sciences to establish centres of excellence aimed at improving advanced healthcare services and medical training.
According to the Chief Minister, the government is also working towards establishing a dedicated state health university to streamline and strengthen medical education and healthcare administration in Tripura.
The healthcare sector has further received a boost with the establishment of new institutions, including the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College, which is expected to expand healthcare access and medical education opportunities within the state.
Saha said Tripura has witnessed considerable expansion in higher and professional education since 2018. Several new private universities and professional training institutions have been introduced to broaden educational opportunities for students.
He noted that the government has also focused on developing professional and engineering colleges to create better career prospects for the youth and reduce dependence on institutions outside the state.
Emphasising improvements in law and order, the Chief Minister said the overall security situation in the state has remained peaceful and stable, contributing to a conducive environment for development and investment.
Saha further stated that the government’s emphasis on employment generation, skill development and infrastructure growth has helped create new opportunities for young people across various sectors.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to continuing developmental initiatives and ensuring inclusive growth across Tripura in the coming years. FD JK
