Agartala, Dec 9 (FD) Tripura power minister, Ratan Lal Nath Monday said that Tripura’s power department gets Rs. 161 crore from neighbouring Bangladesh for supplying power to the neighbouring country.
“We get Rs 161 crore from neighbouring Bangladesh as we are supplying 80 mg watt power to neighbouring Bangladesh every day. Some time it reduces to 60 mg watt. Even as we directly supply power to the neighbouring country, the entire matter with Bangladesh including how much we have sent and how much money would we get is handled by Vidyut Byapar Nigam Ltd. We do not directly deal with the neighbouring country”, he told reporters.
He said, the power is supplied to the country on the basis of an agreement with the country.
Tripura being an electricity surplus state started giving about 100 mg watt power to the neighbouring country since 2016 .
An official said, power is being supplied to Bangladesh and other neighbouring states from Tripura from the 726 mg watt generation capacity OTPC gas based power plant in Tripura’s Palatana project, about 65 km from here.
The OTPC is a joint venture company of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The Rs.10, 000 crores plant is also a unique example of cooperation of Dhaka and Delhi as the former ensured the passage of heavy project equipments to Tripura through Bangladesh. FD JK
