Agartala, May 24 (FD) The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) has demanded that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha release a white paper detailing all government sector recruitment since 2018, amid what they call “inconsistent statements” regarding the number of jobs filled under the BJP-led administration.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, TPYC leader Sahajan Islam sharply criticized the Chief Minister for allegedly providing varying figures on recruitment. “On December 18, 2024, Dr. Saha said that 13,000 posts were filled. Then on April 28, 2025, he claimed 16,942 posts had been filled. Just two days ago, he mentioned 19,262 posts. This raises serious questions about transparency,” Islam said.
While acknowledging Dr. Saha’s personal reputation as a clean politician, Islam stressed the need for clarity. He urged the Chief Minister to publish a comprehensive white paper with verified data covering government employment activities over the last seven years.
Islam also highlighted the pressing issue of unemployment in Tripura. “With a population of around 42 lakh, nearly 7 lakh youths are currently unemployed,” he pointed out. He accused the government of dragging its feet on recruitment, stating that job selection processes have often remained unresolved for two to three years.
“The youth are growing increasingly frustrated. If the white paper is not released soon, the Youth Congress will have no option but to launch statewide democratic protests,” warned Islam.
He reaffirmed the Youth Congress's commitment to standing beside the state's unemployed youth, stressing that the organization would continue its struggle through democratic means.
The demand for transparency comes amid growing public concern over rising joblessness in the state, and TPYC’s challenge is likely to increase political pressure on the ruling government as the state heads toward critical policy debates ahead of the next election cycle. FD SB JK
