Agartala, July 31 (FD) Tripura will launch the first phase of Census 2027 on Saturday, with nearly 8,000 enumerators and supervisors conducting the month-long House listing and Housing Census (HLO) across all eight districts. The exercise, which will continue till August 30, is part of India's first fully digital census.
Tripura Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas said the census would provide vital data for planning and policy-making in sectors such as education, healthcare, housing and employment, besides guiding resource allocation and welfare programmes.
The 2027 Census marks a major technological shift, with data being collected entirely through a mobile application and web portal, replacing traditional paper schedules. During the first phase, enumerators will collect information on houses, household amenities and assets through 33 notified questions.
The survey will gather details on housing conditions, household composition, ownership, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe status, drinking water, electricity, sanitation, cooking fuel, digital connectivity, household assets, vehicles and staple food.
Officials said around nine lakh families are expected to be covered in Tripura. The self-enumeration facility, launched on July 17, has already received nearly 50,000 online submissions.
Biswas said the exercise will be supervised by the District Magistrates, who will function as Principal Census Officers, while the Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner will oversee the AMC area.
Officials assured that all information collected would remain strictly confidential under the Census Act, 1948, and protected through secure digital systems. Residents will not be required to produce any identity cards or official documents while providing information.
Appealing for public cooperation, Biswas urged citizens to provide accurate information and called on the media to help raise awareness, particularly in remote and hilly areas.
The second phase of Census 2027 will cover Population Enumeration, while the first phase will create the state's baseline housing and household database. FD JK
