Tripura to build up 28 modern smoke houses for benefit of the rubber growers

Agartala, Mar 17 (FD) The Tripura Government has taken initiative a process to build up 28 modern smoke houses to produce high-quality rubber sheet, officials said today.
A smoke house is required to make an impact of smokes on the temporary rubber sheets so that these sheets are not affected by any kind of fungus.
Director of the Tribal Welfare department, Subhasish Das said, “We have been allocated Rs.37.50 crore under the Special Assistance to the states for capital investment (SASCI) scheme for building up highly modernised smoke houses”.
Tripura is the second rubber capital of the country after Kerala, which produces 1,10,717 metric tonns of natural rubber per year and the rubber is cultivated in 1,10,648 hectares of land.
Only 4% of natural rubber grown in the state is used in the state and the rest amount goes outside as latex or as rubber sheets.
The rubber growers suffer maximum during summer due to the fungal attacks and if such modernised smoke house is built the growers would be maximum benefitted. FD JK
