Tripura tightens security, arrests youths with firearms before Republic Day

Agartala, Jan 25 (FD) Security was beefed up ahead of the 76th Republic Day in Tripura and BSF was asked to maintain a close vigil along the 856 km long border with Bangladesh.
Police said, despite tight security three youths were arrested in Tripura with firearms and police is strongly investigating the cases.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a hotel at Dharmanagar, the headquarters of the North Tripura district on Friday night and arrested two youths and recovered one sophisticated revolver from their possession.
The youths were identified as Niraj Kumar (20) and Indal Mukhia (35), who during a preliminary investigation revealed that they entered Tripura for selling the firearm. Further investigation is on to find out the details.
This incident occurred four days after arrest of a Bangladeshi national from Khagrachheri district of neighbouring Bangladesh.
He was arrested from Milanchakra here with with a loaded 9 mm pistol with many live cartridges, 25000 Bangladeshi taka, and Rs. 2.21 lakh Indian currency and two smart phones.
Sources in BSF said they were keeping a close vigil on the situations in Bangladesh especially after the Prime Minister of the neighbouring country took refuge in India.
Police said they were continuously checking vehicles and hotels before the 76th Republic day and installed many CC cameras in different parts of the state. FD JK
