Agartala, Sept 25 (FD) Tripura has set October 31, 2026, as the target for completing its digital health transformation across the state, with a focus on integrating healthcare services, improving efficiency and making medical facilities more accessible to citizens.
The state's ongoing efforts to modernise healthcare delivery through digital technology were showcased at Aarogya Manthan 2026, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda attended the event as the chief guest, while National Health Authority CEO Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal and other dignitaries were present. The programme marked the eighth anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the fifth anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao, IAS, participated in a discussion on digital transformation in healthcare, highlighting the state's experience with the Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS) and outlining its future digital health roadmap.
Gitte said Tripura was moving away from fragmented, paper-based healthcare services towards an interconnected, interoperable and citizen-centric digital ecosystem. He said IHMIS would serve as the core operational platform, while ABDM would provide the necessary infrastructure for interoperability and seamless digital integration.
He emphasised that the objective of IHMIS extended beyond computerising hospital registration, aiming instead to digitally connect citizens, doctors, nurses, healthcare facilities, pharmacies, laboratories and various health programmes through a unified system.
The integrated platform is expected to facilitate electronic health records, optimise resource utilisation, reduce waiting times, improve emergency services, automate processes and enable real-time reporting and data-driven decision-making. It is also expected to strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms and improve the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery.
According to the Health Secretary, the October 31 deadline covers district and sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and health sub-centres across Tripura.
Parallel efforts are underway to strengthen network connectivity, ensure the availability of necessary equipment and provide training to healthcare personnel to facilitate the transition to digital systems.
Highlighting the role of ABDM, Gitte referred to key components such as the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), registration of healthcare facilities and professionals, interoperable health records and consent-based data exchange.
These digital facilities are expected to enable seamless access to registration services, prescriptions, laboratory reports and health records while reducing dependence on paper-based documentation.
The state's digital health initiative is aimed at establishing a more coordinated healthcare system, improving service delivery and ensuring that technology-driven medical services reach people across both urban and rural areas of Tripura. FD JK
