Agartala, July 23 (FD) A group of students from various educational institutions across Tripura staged a peaceful demonstration near the Circuit House in Agartala on Thursday, demanding accountability for alleged examination paper leaks and expressing concern over the declining credibility of the country's education system.
The protest entered its fourth consecutive day, with participants asserting that the movement was entirely independent and had no affiliation with any political party.
Addressing the media, a student representative said the demonstrators had come together solely to voice their concerns over repeated instances of question paper leaks and to seek accountability from the authorities.
"We have gathered here because we have grievances against the present system. Every student here has come independently, without the support of any political party. We are united because we have questions and concerns. We are demanding accountability for repeated question paper leaks. This is our democratic right," the student said.
The representative stressed that students from both Bengali and tribal communities had joined the protest under a common identity.
"We have only one identity—that of a student. We have lost the faith we once had in our education system, and we want the government to explain why that trust has been eroded. We are protesting peacefully in the hope that answers will be provided," the student added.
The protesters also referred to reports of student suicides allegedly linked to examination-related controversies, including the NEET paper leak issue. They alleged that repeated lapses by examination authorities had caused severe distress among aspirants and demanded stringent action against those responsible.
The students further condemned the alleged use of force against peaceful protesters in different parts of the country, claiming that several demonstrations had been met with lathi-charge and excessive police action. They urged students across the country to raise their voices against examination irregularities and called for comprehensive reforms to ensure fairness and transparency in the recruitment and examination process.
The demonstration concluded peacefully, with participants reiterating their demand for greater transparency, accountability and systemic reforms to restore public confidence in the examination system. FD JK
