Agartala, June 23 (FD) In a significant step towards strengthening Tripura's dairy sector and improving the livelihoods of farmers and livestock rearers, a historic tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday between the Animal Resources Development Department of the Tripura Government, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited.
The agreement was signed at Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah, Animal Resources Development, Fisheries and Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, and senior government officials.
The MoU aims to formulate and implement a Comprehensive Cooperative Dairy Development Plan (CCDDP) in alignment with the national vision of White Revolution 2.0, a major initiative focused on increasing milk production, strengthening dairy cooperatives, and ensuring sustainable growth in the dairy sector.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha described the occasion as a proud moment for Tripura and reiterated the government's commitment to the welfare of farmers and dairy producers. He expressed confidence that the agreement would strengthen the state's cooperative dairy ecosystem and create new opportunities for economic growth.
The Chief Minister stated that dairy farming has immense potential to increase the income of farmers and livestock rearers while contributing significantly to the rural economy. He emphasized that the state government has already undertaken various initiatives to increase milk production and promote self-reliance among dairy farmers.
Highlighting the success of Gujarat in dairy and dairy-based products, Dr. Saha said Tripura also aspires to achieve a distinguished position in the country's dairy map. He expressed hope that a strong dairy movement would emerge in the state and become a model for other regions in India.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for agricultural and rural development, the Chief Minister said that Tripura is progressing rapidly across multiple sectors and the dairy industry can play a transformative role in achieving inclusive growth.
Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das termed the agreement a milestone for the state. He said the initiative would not only increase milk production but also establish a sustainable development framework that would improve the socio-economic conditions of livestock rearers and dairy farmers. According to him, milk production in the state has been steadily increasing, and the government is implementing several measures to further accelerate growth in the sector.
Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia highlighted the positive transformation witnessed in cooperative institutions since the present government assumed office. He noted that cooperatives play a vital role in rural development and in achieving the vision of a "Viksit Bharat." The government, he added, remains committed to strengthening cooperative movements and ensuring their reach to the grassroots level.
During the programme, NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah and Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited Chairman Ratan Ghosh also shared their views on dairy sector expansion, cooperative-based production enhancement, market development, and improving the livelihoods of dairy farmers.
The MoU was formally signed by Animal Resources Development Department Secretary Deepa D. Nair on behalf of the Tripura Government, NDDB North-East Regional Head Dr. Sabyasachi Roy on behalf of NDDB, and Ratan Ghosh on behalf of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited.
Senior officials, representatives of NDDB, and members of the Board of Directors of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited were also present at the event.
The landmark agreement is expected to usher in a new era of dairy development in Tripura, paving the way for higher milk production, stronger cooperative institutions, enhanced farmer income, and sustainable rural economic growth under the vision of White Revolution 2.0. FD SB
