Agartala, Aug 10 (FD) An international buyer-seller meet was organised at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala to promote Tripura’s organic agricultural products and create new market opportunities for farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
The promotional programme was organised by the Agriculture Department of the Tripura government, bringing together farmers, buyers, government officials and business representatives to showcase the state’s diverse range of organic produce.
A total of 12 stalls were set up by FPOs to display Tripura’s agricultural products. The exhibits included the state’s renowned Queen variety of pineapple, Malai tea, ginger, turmeric, jackfruit and other organic produce.
A major highlight of the programme was the formal dispatch of one metric tonne of organic honey to Dubai, marking an important step towards expanding Tripura’s organic agricultural products into international markets. The honey was produced by Dergang Agro Fed Producer Company Limited of Kanchanpur and was transported to Dubai through Guwahati.
The event witnessed the participation of around 60 buyers from within and outside Tripura, along with approximately 100 farmers, providing an important platform for direct interaction between producers and potential buyers.
Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy and Director of Agriculture Phani Bhushan Jamatya attended the programme.
The meet also witnessed participation from a large number of government officials, entrepreneurs and business representatives. Officials said such initiatives would help strengthen market linkages for local farmers, enhance the commercial potential of organic produce and encourage FPOs to explore domestic and international markets.
The successful organisation of the buyer-seller meet was seen as a significant step towards positioning Tripura’s organic agricultural products in wider markets, while providing farmers with greater opportunities to improve their income through value addition and market expansion. FD JK
