Agartala, May 26 (FD) A large-scale Credit Outreach Program held at Rabindra Centenary Bhavan marked a major milestone in Tripura’s financial inclusion and rural development initiatives, with loans worth ₹419.11 crore sanctioned to 10,162 beneficiaries under various government-backed schemes and banking sectors.
The event was organized by Punjab National Bank, the lead bank of the State Level Bankers’ Committee, in Agartala on Tuesday. The program brought together senior officials from the banking and finance sectors, along with state government representatives, to strengthen access to credit and promote self-reliance among citizens.
The chief guest at the event was M. Nagaraju. Other prominent attendees included Jitendra Kumar Sinha, M. Paramasivam, and senior officials from NABARD, State Bank of India, UCO Bank, and several other financial institutions.
The sanctioned loans covered a wide range of sectors and welfare schemes, including retail loans, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, PM SVANIDHI, Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme, PM Vishwakarma, MSME support, Kisan Credit Cards for crop cultivation, animal husbandry and fisheries, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), and other credit-linked schemes.
Apart from loan distribution, the event also highlighted healthcare and rural infrastructure development. Punjab National Bank and Union Bank of India each provided one ambulance to the Chief Medical Officer of West Tripura district to strengthen emergency healthcare services in rural areas. Additionally, State Bank of India contributed ₹36.28 lakh from its Corporate Social Responsibility fund for the modernization of 20 ambulances and installation of life-saving equipment.
Another ambulance worth ₹24.56 lakh was sanctioned through the CSR fund of UCO Bank for the West Tripura district health administration. Meanwhile, NABARD approved a grant of ₹15.06 lakh to Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology for training rural youth in plastic technology and skill development.
During the program, dignitaries virtually inaugurated a new ATM of Punjab National Bank at Pencharakhal in Unakoti district, a new branch of Union Bank of India at Shantibazar, and a Customer Service Point of State Bank of India to improve banking accessibility in remote regions.
Speaking at the event, M. Nagaraju stated that the large-scale credit distribution would significantly strengthen small businesses, farmers, self-help groups, and young entrepreneurs in Tripura while accelerating the state’s economic activities. He also emphasized the importance of promoting welfare-oriented central government schemes related to insurance, pension, and credit support.
Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha said the initiative would bring long-term positive changes to the banking and financial services sector in Tripura, especially in remote and underserved areas. He added that the expansion of banking infrastructure and financial services would directly benefit rural communities across the state.
A similar outreach program was also organized earlier in the day at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur, where loan sanction letters worth ₹105.40 crore were distributed among 4,577 beneficiaries under different banking schemes. FD SB
