Tripura Seeks ₹15,000 Crore Relief from Centre for Devastating Floods

Agartala, Feb 11 (FD) Appreciating the role of the central Government during the devastating flood in July last year, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Tuesday said the state has demanded Rs. 15,000 crore to compensate the damage.
Addressing the state flood review meeting held here on Tuesday he said, “We have received all sorts of help from the centre during the devastating flood. They sent many NDRF teams and choppers during the flood and also sent cash to tide over the situation”.
He said the central government had also dispatched two inter ministerial teams later to assess the damage of properties and infrastructures during the flood, which valued at Rs. 15000 crores.
Saha said, “Our state government has immediately spent Rs. 563. Now I am in touch with the central government to get Rs. 15000 crores. I am sure that the centre would send the amount by maintaining all procedures”.
At least 38 people had died and 17 lakh people were displaced which devastated the state in August and September last year.
“The state had hardly witnessed such a flood in the state, where water level had crossed danger level in 11 rivers out of the 12 rivers in the state. 889 relief camps were opened to provide shelter and food to the flood victims”, Saha said. FD JK
