Agartala, Sept 30 (FD) The Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) has formally ordered fresh polling across three seats in two Village Committees in Gomati district. The directive follows substantiated allegations of bogus voting, irregularities, and localized disturbances during the election exercise conducted on September 29.
State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty announced the Commission’s decision during an official press conference held on Tuesday evening. Chakraborty stated that the regulatory body initiated immediate scrutiny after receiving formal complaints regarding electoral malpractice and disturbances at designated polling stations. The Commission reached its conclusion after thoroughly assessing detailed operational reports submitted by the respective Returning Officers overseeing the polling process.
According to the official notification issued by the Commission, the repolling exercise will cover Seat Numbers 3 and 4 of the Gamaria Village Committee located within the Matabari Block, alongside Seat Number 4 of the Paharpur Village Committee under the Amarpur Block. Both administrative blocks fall under the jurisdiction of Gomati district.
The Commission confirmed that the fresh balloting process is scheduled to take place on October 3, with voting commencing at 7:00 AM under heightened security arrangements to prevent any recurring disruptions. The counting of votes for these seats, as well as the wider election, will be conducted on October 5 starting from 8:00 AM.
Chakraborty noted that concrete grievances concerning proxy and bogus voting were logged across all three disputed seats during Monday's electoral round. In light of administrative findings verifying compromised procedures at those centers, holding a fresh poll was deemed vital to ensure democratic integrity.
Despite the localized unrest recorded in parts of Amarpur and Matabari blocks, overall democratic participation remained robust across the state. The State Election Commission confirmed that the aggregate voter turnout reached 81.21 per cent across the Village Committee elections. FD JK
