Agartala, Oct 3 (FD) The Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) has completed preparations for the counting of votes cast in the Village Committee elections, with counting scheduled to take place on October 5 across 45 centres in the state amid tight security arrangements.
According to State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen, counting will be conducted across 44 blocks through 45 counting centres. Most blocks will have one counting hall, while Manu block will have two counting halls because of the larger number of seats involved.
Sen said the Commission had made all necessary arrangements to ensure that the counting process is conducted smoothly and without disruption. The counting will be held at block headquarters or at other locations identified by the respective Returning Officers.
The Village Committee elections were conducted across Tripura on September 28. With the counting process scheduled for October 5, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel will be deployed at counting centres to maintain law and order and provide security during the proceedings.
The Returning Officers concerned will declare the results on a round-wise basis as counting is completed in their respective jurisdictions. The arrangements are aimed at ensuring an orderly and transparent counting process across the different blocks.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission has also started preparations for the upcoming urban local body elections in Tripura. The electoral arrangements for the civic polls are currently being finalised, with polling stations already identified for 21 urban local bodies across the state.
A total of 783 polling stations have been finalised for the urban local body elections. The draft electoral roll for the civic polls was published on October 1, allowing eligible voters to inspect the details and raise claims or objections within the prescribed period.
As per the draft electoral roll, the total electorate for the urban local body elections stands at 6,31,388 voters. This includes 3,08,983 male voters, 3,22,360 female voters and 45 third-gender voters.
Eligible electors can examine the draft roll at designated locations and submit claims or objections within the stipulated deadline. The last date for filing claims and objections has been fixed as October 8.
Following the completion of the claims and objections process, the final electoral roll for the urban local body elections is scheduled to be published on October 15, 2026.
