Agartala, July 11 (FD) A recent Home Department report revealed frightening data for rape cases recorded in several police stations throughout Tripura. According to the research, 467 rape incidents have been filed in the state in the last three years, raising worries about women's safety and security.
The data, which was provided in answer to a query from TIPRA Motha MLA Nandita Reang of the opposition, shows that the Radhakishorepur police station in Udaipur, which serves as the administrative centre for the Gomati district's police force, had the greatest number of rape cases, with 43 instances. With 28 and 26 cases, respectively, West Agartala and East Agartala Police Stations are not far behind.
Gomati district emerged as the district with the highest number of reported rape cases overall. Other police stations, such as Irani and Kailashahar in North Tripura, also registered significant numbers of rape cases, with 18 cases each.
Addressing the action taken against these crimes, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is also in charge of the Home portfolio, stated that 561 individuals have been arrested in connection with these cases.
Comparing this data with last year's assembly records, it becomes apparent that the number of reported rape cases has increased in the past three years. In a similar report from 2022, 407 cases of rape were registered during the same time frame.
These distressing statistics highlight the urgent need for enhanced measures to protect the rights and safety of women in Tripura. Authorities are urged to take concrete actions to address this concerning issue and ensure justice for the victims. FD SB
