Agartala, Oct 28 (FD) National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), a student wing of Tripura Pradesh Congress has criticized the fee hike in the Tripura Medical College (TMC) and demanded immediate withdrawal of the increased fees.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Bhavan here on Thursday, NSUI Tripura Pradesh leaders said that the hike in fees will make higher education difficult for the students from middle and weaker sections.
Recently an allegation of hiked fees in several courses of Tripura Medical College, Hapania, including MBBS has surfaced among various quarters.
NSUI state president Samrat Roy said, “Higher education is a means of social change towards social justice. But this cannot be achieved by raising student fees by applying the BJP government's grant-cutting policy.”
Since the BJP-IPFT coalition government came to power fees of various medical courses in Tripura Medical College has been increased three times in a row, Roy added.
Opposing the decision of hiked fees, he said the medical college fee in 2021-22 was Rs 54 lakh and now it has been increased to about Rs 68 lakh. Moreover, the hostel fees have also been increased.
The NSUI leaders said, they would launch an agitation in the coming days if the increased fee is not withdrawn immediately. FD PD JK
