Agartala, Feb 7 (FD) West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said TMC is the party which would oust the ‘double engine ‘government’ from the country and form an alternative government in the general elections to be held next year.
Addressing a public rally here in the poll bound Tripura, Banerjee said, “The days of intimidation by CBI or ED is over. They will not be able to cause any harm by showing threats of CBI and ED anymore. You wait for the 2024 elections and see what happens”.
“TMC is the only party which would oust the double engine government from the country and form an alternative government”, she added.
Before the public address, the TMC also held a road show, which was attended by Banerjee and her nephew and All India Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhshek Banerjee.
Banerjee said Tripura and Bengal have cultural and lingual affinity and food habits of both the states are same and her party wants to do many development works in the state for the interests of the tribals and non tribals.
She assured that all the development schemes like Laxmir Bhandar, Kanyashree, Oikyashree or students merit scholarships, which were introduced in West Bengal, would also be introduced in Tripura if TMC is voted to power.
She alleged that there is no democracy in the state under BJP rule as people could not organize political meetings and even the journalists had lost the right to gather news.
“Two years ago our party’s leaders and activists were attacked and their vehicles were vandalized and even they were put behind the bars illegally. When the democracy was in such a bad shape the leaders and activists of our party had protested against such misdeeds and became subjects of torture”, she said.
In an oblique reference to BJP, Banerjee said the party which cannot guarantee 100 days work for the people has no right to ask for vote.
She said the TMC would not compromise with any party and added that transparency and ethics are required in politics.
“We are fighting the elections in the state alone because we would not compromise with any party. We are ready to fight and sacrifice in the battle”, she added.
Banerjee said that people would reject the alliance between CPI-M and Congress and having the same experience in West Bengal again they forged the alliance shamelessly.
She also said that Tripura is her second home and she had earlier worked in the state with Santoshmohan Deb, when she was a member of Congress. FD JK
