Agartala, May 30 (FD) In a significant operation, Tripura police successfully intercepted a truck carrying 12 Myanmar breed cattle and apprehended three individuals in Panisagar, the northern district of the state.
The operation was carried out based on prior information received on May 29, alerting the authorities about the smuggling of Myanmar breed cattle through Mizoram into Panisagar.
Police personnel from Damcherra police station were deployed at various checkpoints throughout Damcherra, maintaining a vigilant ambush throughout the night. Their efforts paid off when a 12-wheeler lorry carrying the cattle entered the area at around 4:30 am.
The police promptly seized the truck along with the animals and detained the three suspects at the scene. The authorities have registered a case against the accused and taken measures to relocate the seized cattle to a cowshed.
The arrested individuals were later identified as Litan Miah (30), Zamal Hossein (27), and Abdul Fatar (34). Litan and Zamal hail from Melaghar and Sonamura in Sepahijala district, respectively, while Abdul is a resident of Damcherra in North Tripura district. While three suspects were apprehended, several others managed to escape from the spot, according to police reports.
This incident follows another recent success in combating cattle smuggling, as the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 86 Myanmar breed cattle in Shibbari area, Dhalai district. In that operation, a total of 18 individuals were detained for their alleged involvement in the illicit trade.
The actions taken by the Tripura police and BSF in curbing cattle smuggling demonstrate their commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting the state's border security. FD SB JK
