Agartala, Jul 01 (FD) In a significant breakthrough, Tripura Police successfully rescued contractor Shyamal Deb mere hours after he was kidnapped in broad daylight near the North Gate of the Palace Compound in Agartala city.
The incident took place yesterday, and the West Tripura Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar, revealed that they are making swift progress in identifying and apprehending the culprits behind the abduction.
West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar disclosed that they are diligently investigating the incident and have obtained several names related to the kidnapping.
The victim, during debriefing, provided crucial information leading to his rescue in the Fatikcherra and Kamalasagar areas of West Tripura. Law enforcement officials are forming teams and collaborating with neighbouring districts to ensure the swift apprehension of the culprits.
According to Shyamal Deb, his recent contract with the Public Works Department (PWD) in Khowai district, valued at Rs. 60 lakh, appears to be the motive behind his abduction. The contractor recounted being taken to Fatikcherra Tea Garden, where the kidnappers demanded his signature on a surrender letter and confiscated his phone. Upon realising that the police were tracking him, they abandoned him at the location. Deb managed to seek help from the authorities and was eventually rescued.
The victim, who also identifies as a BJP activist, urged Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to intervene in the matter, requesting an end to the prevailing mafiaraj.
In response, senior police officials emphasised their commitment to tackling various crimes, including theft, assault, and abductions. The West Tripura SP recently announced measures to combat these issues, acknowledging a recent rise in theft cases. FD SB
