Tripura Panchayat elections on August 8, results on August 12

Agartala, July 11 (FD) Elections for the three-tier Panchayats in Tripura will be held on August 8, State Election Commissioner (SEC), Saradindu Chowdhury said.
Counting of ballots will began on August 12 and the entire election process will be completed by August 17, Chowdhury told reporters last night.
The election code of conduct has taken effect with the declaration of the elections and the notification for the elections was made today by the commission.
The last date for filing nomination papers is July 18 and the scrutiny of these papers would be done the next day. The candidates could withdraw their nominations by July 22.
The panchayat elections would be held in 6,370 Gram Panchayat seats, 423 seats in 35 Panchayat Samitis, and 116 seats in eight Zilla Parishad.
12, 94,060 voters, including 6, 58,589 males and 6, 35,460 females are eligible to exercise their franchise.
The ruling BJP secured 86 per cent of the gram Panchayats seats uncontested in 2019 amid the controversy that the vote was rigged by the ruling party.
With the notification of the elections, filing of nomination started from today.
The opposition Left Front today filed 16 nominations for the West Tripura Zilla Parishad to the District Magistrate of West Tripura district as he is the returning officer. FD JK
