Agartala, Dec 18 (FD) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that Tripura was earlier known as a state for conflicts and after the BJP government came to power the state is now known for development, connectivity and cleanliness.
Addressing a public rally at the Swami Vivekananda Maidan here, he said, the state is becoming a logistic hub and is also immerging as the new gateway of trade in the North-East, which would be connected with the South asian countries like Myanmar and Thailand.
Modi said the 15-km long Agartala-Akhaura railway project to connect North-East with Bangladesh would be completed next year.
“Crores of fund is invested in building infrastructure after the double-engine government assumes power in the state. National Highways are getting a massive facelift connecting several villages”, he said adding the new possibility is beckoning the state after the international standard airport came up.
Lashing out at the opposition, Modi alleged the ration meant for the poor used to be looted away before formation of a double engine government. “Now, the poor people are receiving their rightful ration without any trouble. Moreover, the poor have been getting ration free of cost for the past three years”, he said.
Modi also claimed that the janjati (indigenous) were kept out of development for long years. “They are masters in spreading negativity pulling the reverse gear when the state was to need an escalator. The double-engine government has a positive way as well as determination to implement development work on the ground”, he said.
Claiming that the saffron is the first choice for the Janajati because of its positive attitude, the Prime Minister referred to the party’s phenomenal victory in Gujarat’s tribal belts.
Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated 2, 05,545 dwelling houses under PMAY, State Institute of Hotel Management at Anandanagar, widening of Agartala bypass(Khayerpur to Amtali) and Agartala Govt Dental College & IGM hospital (Agartala).
He also laid the foundation stone of 32 roads covering an area of 323 km under PMGSY-III, 112 road projects with 542 km length.
Modi said that cleanliness turned out to be a mass movement in the last five years and, as a result, Tripura emerged as the cleanest among small states of the country.
Prime Minister said, the focus of the government is on all-round development of Tripura and the projects launched today will give a fillip to the northeastern state's growth trajectory.
He inaugurated projects worth over Rs 4300 crore including Griha Pravesh Programme benefitting over 2.05 lakh beneficiaries under PMAY.
Prime Minister said, more than 7000 health centres under Aush programme would be created in the entire north eastern region of which 1000 centres would be in Tripura an more than one lakh women under PM Matribandhan yojana would be benefitted.
Modi also held a separate meeting with the council of ministers at the state Guest House here and flew back to Delhi by a special Indian Air Force plane. FD JK
