Agartala, Jan 02 (FD) The last rites of Tripura Revenue Minister and chief of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) Narendra Chandra Debbarma was performed on Monday at Nakshirai Para, ancestral home of Debbarma, in North Maharani of Kalyanpur under Khowai district.
A large number of people thronged there to see their beloved leader for the last time. Many relatives were also present. A song salute was paid to the late minister.
Earlier on Sunday, the mortal remains of Debbarma, who died at the age of 84 on Sunday, were kept at his residence in Krishnanagar here.
He was suffering from multiple ailments including old-age, chronic diabetes and cardiac problems. Debbarma breathed his last at 2.45 pm at G B Pant hospital.
Debbarma’s mortal remains were brought to the state Secretariat where he was given a floral tribute by the members of the Assembly including Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Speaker Ratan Chakraborty and others.
“Minister NC Debbarma handled his department with considerable intelligence and registered a successful turnout,” Chakraborty said after paying floral tribute to the body.
He also paid condolences to the bereaved family members.
Dr Saha said, “Debbarma was the senior most Minister of the state cabinet who used to give his advice with due intelligence.”
“He used to think for the people of the state and had a tendency to do something for the people,” Lone Congress MLA in the state Sudip Roy Barman said after offering a floral tribute to the body.
Debbarma is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.
He held the post of the Station Director of the All India Radio for many years before joining politics and formed IPFT in 2009 and raised the demand for separate Tipraland by carbing out the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which constitute two third of the state territory and home to tribals, who form one third of the state population.
He played a very significant role in installing the BJP-IPFT alliance government in the state in March 2018 and ended the 25-year old Marxist government. FD PD JK
