Agartala, Sept 20 (FD) Tripura Animal Resource Development, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Saturday welcomed the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) performance in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections and linked the result to what he described as growing support among young people for nationalism and the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
ABVP won three of the four central DUSU posts. Yash Dabas was elected president, Riya Chhawdi secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh joint secretary, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post. The results were declared on September 19 after 20 rounds of counting.
In a Facebook Live broadcast, Das congratulated ABVP activists and the newly elected office-bearers, saying the results were significant because students from across the country study at Delhi University.
“Delhi University is not attended only by students from Delhi. Students from every state study there, which is why it is often called ‘Mini India’,” he said.
Das also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ student outreach programme in Indore. He claimed that the DUSU results showed students had rejected what he described as the “politics of lies” and alleged that opposition parties were seeking to influence young people through “false propaganda”.
The minister further criticised Communist parties and other opposition groups, using terms including “Urban Naxals”, “intellectual Naxals” and “anti-national forces”. He alleged that some groups were attempting to undermine nationalism and India’s cultural traditions.
Das also pointed out that the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) did not win any of the four central DUSU posts. Independent candidate Shokeen, who has been reported as a former NSUI member, secured the vice-president’s position.
Calling on young people to remain alert against what he described as “conspiracies” and misinformation, Das said the youth had an important role in shaping the country’s future. Citing Swami Vivekananda, he urged students to maintain a positive outlook and contribute to nation-building.
He concluded by congratulating the elected DUSU office-bearers and expressing hope that they would work for students’ interests. FD JK
