Agartala, June 3 (FD) Emphasizing that there is no substitute for blood and that blood donation benefits both recipients and donors, Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said that the state has emerged as a leader in voluntary blood donation activities compared to many other states in the country. He stated that blood donation has now transformed into a social movement in Tripura and called for organizing more such humanitarian initiatives for the welfare of society.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating a blood donation camp organized by the renowned Ramakrishna Club at Ramnagar in Agartala. The event was held under the slogan “Donate Blood, Save Lives,” aiming to encourage more people to participate in voluntary blood donation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said that any healthy individual between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood and urged citizens to come forward to support this noble cause. He noted that according to population requirements, around 40,000 units of blood should be available in the state's blood banks. However, Tripura currently has more than the required stock, reflecting the growing awareness among people regarding blood donation.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significant improvements made in the healthcare sector. He pointed out that in the past, the state lacked blood component separation facilities, but today hospitals have established modern separation units. Additionally, sufficient blood banks have been developed across the state to meet public health needs.
Dr. Saha observed that clubs in Tripura are increasingly engaging in social welfare activities such as blood donation camps, which he described as a positive sign for society. He further appreciated the growing participation of women in managing clubs and social organizations, saying that women are playing a crucial role in community service activities. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized women's empowerment as a key factor in the country's development.
During the event, the Chief Minister interacted with blood donors and enquired about their health and well-being. He particularly praised a specially-abled woman donor who participated in the camp, describing her contribution as a matter of pride for the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder said that blood donation has become a festival-like movement in Tripura due to the active participation of citizens. Ramakrishna Club Advisory Committee Secretary Nantu Bhattacharjee also addressed the gathering.
Among others present were Ramakrishna Club President Nirmal Bardhan, Secretary Sanjay Majumder, and several distinguished guests, volunteers, and blood donors.
The blood donation camp reflected the spirit of humanitarian service and social responsibility, with organizers and participants reaffirming their commitment to saving lives through voluntary blood donation.
